Digital and online annual report design with our Norwegian partners

Through some long-standing relationships, of some 18 years or more, Navig8 collaborated with the marketing and content agency Coupler in Oslo, Norway, to deliver an annual report for  Håndverksgruppen.

Håndverksgruppen is Scandinavia’s leading surfacing contractor, delivering walling, painting, tiling and flooring services.

The directors of Navig8 and Coupler (www.couplerhq.com a digital marketing content agency) worked together in the distant past and so, having always kept in touch, came together when the project required a joint approach.

When Coupler secured Håndverksgruppen as a client, part of their delivery was to produce an annual report. We worked together to deliver their print and digital PDF which would then be repurposed into a multi-language online report: www.handverksgruppen.com/annual-report-2022

Setting aside the front-end online report, this is a benchmark approach to delivering financial statements online. The mobile experience is seamless and the microsite delivers content in four different languages. It is a thing of beauty.

This is an ideal solution for abridged financial reporting. A typical annual report for a global organisation would see up to 100 pages of statements. This does not lend itself to an online solution, but in this case, the result is a finely crafted stakeholder communication tool.

Navig8’s role was to take the existing style guide and progress the corporate reporting. For an organisation of this type, the photographic library was exceptional and to a certain extent, we could let the images do the talking.

The report was designed to be both a digital document but also have the capacity to be printed. With the online version, a digital PDF and a printed document, every channel of delivery was covered.

Our role was to ‘upgrade’ the design aesthetics and develop the visual language to be the template for all channels, both online and in print. The client suggested a more ‘magazine’ approach. Coupler had delivered content illustrating ‘real-life’ case studies, one of which was a devastating post-fire repair: www.handverksgruppen.com/features/why-national-insurance-deals-matters-to-brit-and-lene

We introduced a heavy serif font that ‘lifted’ the headlines and made them a statement. Sometimes a simple addition to a styleguide, particularly with an annual report, can have a huge impact on the design. In this case, it delivered a stronger ‘purpose’ opening and widening the company’s stakeholder perceptions.

The next step was to tackle the infographics.

We used visual devices associated with the organisation’s activities to develop charts and diagrams that deliver a more engaging experience without diminishing the true data.

The final report, online, PDF and printed document was delivered by Couper – not Navig8. Our part in the initial creative and concept development was an illustration of how two agencies can work together, exchange skills and respect each other's particular skills to deliver reporting at a higher level than most organisations – and their stakeholders – experience.

Navig8 has delivered annual report solutions in America (USA), Spain, Italy and China. This Scandinavian case study is another example of how creative, technical and content agencies can come together to deliver world-beating corporate reporting.
