Navig8 worked with the NHS National Patient Safety department to produce a template design for their quarterly Data Summary documents. Traditionally these documents have been very factual in style, plain and frankly, dull. The client had seen the work that we had produced for previous annual reports and wanted us to look at the data and devise a set of styles to help make the information more immediate, assessable and attractive.
The template (and the first publication) would be used as a guide for the up and coming report throughout the year.
The data supplied was very detailed and quite complex. Looking at it gave you the glazed eye effect. We extracted the relevant information, bringing top line facts to the forefront and keeping back up data in the background for those you wanted it.
We choose one dominating colour for the publication after consultation with the client about their brand guidelines. We used the remaining colours in the palette sparingly and implemented a clean, bold typographic style. We were also aware that the document would be available as a PDF and a large amount of the readership will read it on screen. A clean font, with a reasonable amount of leading was employed. The figures leap off the page and the pie charts are interesting and clear.
The designs were approved in the first draft and the first data summary document approved after one set of revisions. The process was faster than ever before. We have a happy client who has already come back for more.
